What is your role:

This is a senior role to lead the organisation whilst working on the most iconic landscape projects in London, overseeing a team of Senior Landscape Project Managers and reporting directly to the Director.

 

Due to growth in the scale and scope of works undertaken by our client in recent years, they have expanded the team to continue to deliver these essential services across the full range of iconic projects. This new role of Head of Landscape Strategy will provide the team with a strategic focus and will:

  1. Lead the development of an overarching landscape strategy, engaging and communicating with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure knowledge from internal and external sources is successfully integrated into the future planning for the management, protection and enhancement of the parks.
  2. Lead on the development and delivery of a comprehensive landscape priority project list and associated capital investment programme to support delivery of the landscape strategy.  
  3. Lead the Landscape Services team in the development and implementation of the landscape strategy and master plans for the horticultural and landscape developments to address challenges around hydrology, arboriculture, landscape resilience, biodiversity loss and visitor pressure.

What makes you good at your job:

  • You are a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute.
  • You have a relevant postgraduate qualification in Landscape Architecture/Management or equivalent professional qualification.
  • You have extensive post-Chartership experience of working at a senior level in an environmental and or landscape management organisation.
  • You can demonstrate experience of thinking and working strategically, including landscape strategy development and implementation.
  • You have extensive knowledge of the design and management of historic landscapes.
  • You have extensive experience in the management and delivery of large-scale capital projects within historic landscapes and public parks.
  • You are a confident communicator, both verbally and in writing, possessing strong influencing and negotiation skills with demonstrable experience of leading teams or functions through change to achieve overall goals.
  • You an effective team leader, managing team dynamics when working across (internal and external) organisational boundaries.
  • You are highly numerate and able to think creatively and commercially in relation to project delivery and management, with the ability to make financial assessments of alternative proposals, and to think creatively to solve problems.

 

What the role includes:

 

Landscape Strategy

Lead on the development and adoption of the long-term landscape strategy, working in collaboration with colleagues, stakeholders, partner organisations and industry experts.

Landscape Project Register

Lead on the development and delivery of a comprehensive capital investment programme and associated project list, to identify and address both the immediate and longer-term challenges facing the ecosystems, biodiversity, and historic landscape character of the parks in support of the overarching landscape strategy.  

Masterplanning and strategic direction

Lead the Landscape Services team in the development and implementation of the landscape strategy and associated master plans and projects for the horticultural and landscape developments to address challenges around hydrology, arboriculture, landscape resilience, biodiversity loss and visitor pressure.

Project Management

Project manage the implementation, delivery, and monitoring of a range of landscape programmes and projects.

Landscape Services

Lead on the strategic development of Landscape Services across the department ensuring it is structured appropriately to strengthen and increase capacity and capability to deliver the landscape strategy and landscape capital investment programme.  

Project Management and Operational Plans

Lead the Landscape Services team to support colleagues in the delivery of project management and operational plans.

Landscape Design

Support the Head of Landscape Architecture in the preparation of landscape design schemes. Manage external design consultants.

Advice and guidance on activities, programmes and projects

Provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues to ensure the protection and enhancement of the landscape projects during the planning, development and delivery of activities, programmes and projects.  

Financial and Contract Management

Responsible for the management of Landscape Services budgets, capital programmes and contracts within delegated authority.

Landscape Service Contracts

Lead the Landscape Services team in the tendering of landscape service contracts, consultant briefs and specialist services.

Stakeholders and communications.

Maintain and develop links and working associations with a wide range of senior stakeholders. Represent the practice at presentations, talks and media

This is a great opportunity for an ambitious Landscape Architect (Assistant through to Principal level considered) to join a growing, sustainability-focused multi-disciplinary consultancy based in Central London.

Our client is open to considering candidates who wish to work either full-time or part-time, and they also offer hybrid working, allowing for up to 50% of the time working remotely.

 

Utilising your excellent design and presentation skills, you will have the opportunity to work on predominantly UK projects with a wide range of valued clients. You will also work closely with the group’s ecologists, water management, air quality and noise specialists to help deliver cutting-edge designs solutions and sustainable outcomes.

With the Landscape Team being relatively small, you will also benefit from a high level of involvement and input on projects.

Key Requirements:

  • A degree and post-graduate qualification in Landscape Architecture.
  • Chartered Membership of the Landscape Institute (or recognised international equivalent)- preferred but not essential.
  • An interest in sustainability and some knowledge of designing for biodiversity and SuDS.
  • Experience in LVIA would be beneficial but not essential.
  • An ability to write clearly and concisely, with excellent vocabulary and grammar.
  • Ability to produce compelling presentations, drawings, reports and marketing material with a good eye for layout.
  • Excellent computer skills including AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office as a minimum.
  • Good project management and communication skills.
